Sessions and account security
Use the account security settings to change an email-and-password sign-in password and review the devices or browsers currently signed in to your account.
At a glance
- Sessions expire after 30 days
- You can revoke an individual session other than your current one, or revoke all other sessions
- Changing your password revokes other sessions; resetting it revokes every session
1
Open Security settings
Sign in, open the account menu, and choose Security. This area contains the password controls for email-and-password sign-in and the list of account sessions.
2
Change your password when needed
Choose the password option, enter your current password, and set a new password with at least 8 characters. This applies to the password used for email-and-password sign-in, not the password managed by Google or Microsoft.
3
Review active sessions
Check the session list to see where the account is signed in. Sessions last for up to 30 days, so remove a session you do not recognize or no longer need.
4
Revoke one session or all other sessions
Revoke an individual session when it is not the current session, such as for a device or browser you no longer use. Select the option to revoke all other sessions to keep this session signed in while signing out everywhere else.
5
Understand what password changes do
Changing your password revokes all other sessions. A password reset is broader: it revokes all sessions, including the one you were using, so sign in again afterward.
Next steps
If you have lost access to your password, return to the sign-in page and request a password-reset email.
